Care of your Jewelry

Taking care of your jewelry is very important but also very easy to do.   Here are some simple steps to ensure you have a beautiful piece that lasts for years to come.

Wearing/Storing Your Jewelry:

- Bracelets, necklaces and drop earrings that are strung on beading wire can kink if they are not put away properly.  Lay them out on a flat surface or your jewelbox or hang them up so they are not sitting in a lump.  If you are low on space, you can coil them loosely, following the natural way the piece will form the circular shape.  Don't fold or force a bend in the piece.  Hand woven beaded pieces are a little more flexible but still should be laid out neatly or hung up in order to preserve their shape.

- Please don’t swim in your jewelry. Salt, chemicals and other minerals could corrode your jewelry piece.

-Do not use jewelry cleaners to clean your jewelry. Use a soft cloth or a piece of damp q-tip to lightly dust your pieces.
-A lot of our pieces are made with glass that may have a light dust.   This is normal, the end process of glass bead making.  The dust is actually a material used to make sliding the beads off of the strand easier to do after firing.  We pre-wash our beads before stringing but sometimes there is residual “kiln dust” . Use a damp q-tip to lightly dust the pieces.

Beaded Bookmarks:

Using your beaded bookmark is very simple.  Just insert the strand portion between the pages, as close to the center as possible, making sure that the longer end of the bookmark (if its hard to tell, it is usually the one with bigger beads or that is more ornate) is at the top of the book.  When you place the book in your bag, be careful how it is placed because the ends are made of glass and will be crushed if something heavy is placed on top of it.  To store when not in use, coil them loosely, following the natural piece will form the circular shape, placing the two ends in the center.  (this is how it comes to you in the pillow box.)  Do not fold the piece as it will form kinks and kinks may weaken the beading wire used to make the piece.
